Lake Roland

We've been trying to find hikes near the city and have come across a couple great ones. There is a park, the Robert E. Lee park that has some great trails. The lake is quite large and you can hike around the entire perimeter. Today we went out for a couple of hours and made it about halfway around before finding a shortcut back.
I could not believe how green the forest was this morning. It has been a very wet spring and the vegetation was amazing! There were areas that were so thick that you couldn't see through the thicket.
Later in the hike, we started seeing thick vines hanging from the trees. Jon had the idea to test their strength with his own body weight. They held! We took turn doing Tarzan swings and jungle calls.
It is definitely a hike we will go back to again. Next time, I think we'll try for the whole way around the lake. I'll pack a picnic. You should come along.
